Brain Candy, German
Time and Again
TIme and again, however well we know the landscape of love,
and the little church-yard with lamenting names,
and the frightfully silent ravine wherein all the others
end: time and again we go out two together,
under the old trees, lie down again and again
between the flowers, face to face with the sky.
-Rainer Maria Rilke, 1875-1926
(translated by J. B. Leishman)
Rilke is one of my favorite poets, and that's saying something. I think I'm a sucker for translated poetry. It makes me wonder how the words flow in the original language, in this case German.
For Rilke, I would learn German.

Sprechen sie Deutsch? Wie alt bist du? Wie heisst du?
(Do you speak German? How old are you? What's your name...or more literally, How are you called?) I'll have to charge you standard rates for more than this.

"Charge you standard rates," or more literally, "invade your country and roll our tanks through your streets."
