The Earth Trembled

Tonight, the gals and I went out to see Top Hat Production's, um, production of The Earth Trembled held at the Fairview Arts and Outreach Center.

I have never been to a passion play. (Those of you who know that I am a Baptist from the South may gasp now.) But I imagine that this one was probably similar to others. This is not to say it wasn't good, because it was excellent. But I guess I expected to be sad, horrified, overwhelmed, and overjoyed, and that is what I was.

The hardest part for me to watch, however, was unexpected. It occurred after Jesus' death when his mother, Mary, left the tomb. The part of Mary was played by my friend Liz. It was so hard to watch her crying and running down the aisle to the back of the room and not get up to give her a hug. I had to tell myself a few times that it was a play and she was playing a role.

But boy, what a hard role to play. I guess the fact that I almost ran down the aisle after her means she did a pretty good job.

Thank goodness I got to give her a hug after the show.
